How we set up an Italian-speaking team

Each step ends with something you can check.

  1. Scope the work

    Week 1

Channels, volumes, hours and what agents may decide alone. You get a written scope and a quote.

  2. Recruit and assess

    Weeks 1–3

Candidates complete structured interviews, language and technical assessments. You can interview the shortlist.

  3. Agree the style

    Weeks 2–3

Lei or tu, greetings, sign-offs and product terms, written into a short Italian style guide.

  4. Train on your product

    Before go-live

Walkthroughs, test accounts and your knowledge base, then supervised replies until quality is stable.

  5. Go live and review

    From go-live

Weekly review of real Italian conversations against an agreed scorecard.

Italian across markets

Italy and Italian-speaking Switzerland share the language, not every convention.

  • Italy

    Form of address
Lei is the default in service; some brands use tu
    Time difference from Prishtina
    Same (CET/CEST)
    What to plan for
Mid-August (Ferragosto) and local patron-saint holidays affect volumes; plan staffing around them
  • Switzerland (Ticino, Italian-speaking Graubünden)

    Form of address
    Lei is the default
    Time difference from Prishtina
    Same (CET/CEST)
    What to plan for
Prices in Swiss francs; Swiss data protection law (FADP) applies; cantonal holidays differ from Italy
  • San Marino

    Form of address
    Lei is the default
    Time difference from Prishtina

    What to plan for
Small volumes, usually served from the Italian queue

Whether you use Lei or tu is a brand choice. We write it into the style guide with example replies.

Getting Italian-language support right

Good Italian support sounds personal without being casual. These are the decisions worth making before the first conversation.

Tone: personal, courteous, consistent

Italian customer service writing is warmer than many brands expect, but still formal: a greeting such as Gentile cliente, Lei rather than tu, and a polite close. Agree the greeting, the form of address and the sign-off once, with examples, so every agent sounds the same.

Planning around the Italian calendar

  • Mid-August (Ferragosto) changes both customer volumes and your own team's availability; agree how cover and response targets work in August.
  • Cities have their own patron-saint holidays, which can shift volume in local markets.
  • Swiss Italian customers follow cantonal holidays, not Italian ones.

Data protection

EU GDPR applies to customers in Italy, and the Swiss FADP to customers in Switzerland. Kosovo has no EU adequacy decision, so transfers rely on standard contractual clauses and a transfer assessment. This is general information, not legal advice; our page on GDPR and outsourcing to Kosovo explains more.

Italian customer support outsourcing: common questions

How much does Italian-language customer support cost?

Italian-language support is priced by custom quote, depending on channels, hours, volume and technical depth. Our published starting rate of €10 per agent-hour applies to English-speaking support.

Do agents use Lei or tu?

Whatever your brand uses. Lei is the usual default in Italian customer service; some consumer brands prefer tu. It goes into the style guide and the quality scorecard.

Can the team serve customers in Ticino?

Yes. Swiss Italian customers are served in Italian; the style guide covers Swiss conventions such as prices in francs, and Swiss customer data falls under the Swiss FADP.

Can we interview the agents?

Yes. Clients can take part in the selection process and interview shortlisted candidates.

How is personal data from Italy protected?

Kosovo's data protection law is closely modelled on the GDPR, but there is no EU adequacy decision for Kosovo, so transfers rely on standard contractual clauses and a transfer assessment. Agents work in your systems, under access rights you control.
