  4. Train on your product

    Before go-live

Walkthroughs, test accounts and your knowledge base, then supervised replies until quality is stable.

  5. Go live and review

Getting Norwegian-language support right

Norwegian has two written standards and a close relationship with Danish and Swedish. Settle both questions before go-live.

Bokmål or Nynorsk

Norwegian has two official written standards. Bokmål is used by most people and is the usual choice for customer service. Nynorsk is used by a minority, mainly in parts of western Norway, and public bodies have obligations to use it. If you serve the public sector or regions where Nynorsk is common, decide how you will handle it, and put it in the style guide.

Tone

  • Du is the norm in Norwegian customer service.
  • Short, plain replies work better than formal letter style.
  • Prices in Norwegian kroner, dates as day.month.year.

Data protection

Norway is part of the European Economic Area, so the GDPR applies to Norwegian customer data. Kosovo has no adequacy decision, so transfers rely on standard contractual clauses and a transfer assessment. This is general information, not legal advice.

Norwegian customer support outsourcing: common questions

How much does Norwegian-language customer support cost?

Norwegian-language support is priced by custom quote, depending on channels, hours, volume and technical depth. Our published starting rate of €10 per agent-hour applies to English-speaking support.

Should replies be in Bokmål or Nynorsk?

Most companies write to customers in Bokmål, which most Norwegians use. If some of your customers, regions or public-sector clients expect Nynorsk, we agree how to handle that in the style guide.

Does the GDPR apply to customers in Norway?

Yes. Norway applies the GDPR through the EEA Agreement. Kosovo has no adequacy decision, so transfers rely on standard contractual clauses and a transfer assessment.

Can a Danish or Swedish speaker answer Norwegian customers?

We don't recommend it. The languages are related, but customers expect replies in Norwegian. Plan Norwegian as its own queue.

Can we interview the agents?

Yes. Clients can take part in the selection process and interview shortlisted candidates.
